TOP 5 KNITWEAR STYLES YOU NEED TO WEAR - WINTER 2021

coach (12).png

What is Winter without knits?

Winter is very much here, especially in Melbourne and we are forecasting icy cold winds and rainy days ahead. Let’s not forget the extra layers that we will find ourselves diving straight into, head first!

Thankfully we have the beauty of layering up in beautiful winter wear to snug into while maintaining our elegance.

If you are waking up every day wondering, what am I going to wear today that will keep me warm, other than a hoodie and trackies, then this shopping guide is especially for you!

I have selected not only the trendiest knits you need for this season but also ones that I am confident will take you through to next Winter. A mix to suit everyone’s pockets and style.

  1. HIGH NECK.

How cosy are high necklines? These styles are the perfect “casual chic” knit you can opt for every day! Warm, snug and stylish. Make sure you pop on some lipstick to suit your mood.

STYLE NOTE: If you are not used to the feeling of knitwear being wrapped around your neck, start with the collared necklines. Giving you the choice to unzip or zip up!

2. V-NECK KNITS.

Who doesn't love a deep V? Now, these knits need a good bra! You can play with the sleeves by cinching them up for an effortless look or even opt for a french tuck to offer some shape.

STYLE NOTE: If your chest feels too bare, try under-layering with a beautiful lace cami.

3. VESTS.

One of my favourites for the season, I still have not had the chance to get one for myself, but I sure will! Let’s do that together! :)

I adore vests because they can really polish your day look without having to work hard to achieve that “effortless look”.

Underlayer with a blouse, button-up shirt or even another knit, such as a fitted turtle neck. Like this beautiful Aje knit.

STYLE NOTE: Pair your vest with your jeans, pants, skirts and even above the right dress, elegant indeed!

4. KNIT DRESS.

We have been seeing knit dresses over the last few Winter’s and seasons actually, in Summer we are seeing crochet knit dresses and now, the knit dress continues…

Yes, a knit dress CAN go wrong if you are not careful about how you wear them and if you select the right cut for you or not. They can emphasise the wrong places. Make sure you tuck yourself in under some great SPANX to smooth out bumps.

Otherwise, I cannot express the importance of seamless g-strings enough! Grab yourself some, please!

CLICK BELOW TO BUY SOME SPANX WITH ME.

5. PONCHO.

A poncho can certainly take you places, through your imagination and also from lunches’ to dinners.

Other than adding warmth to your body and your look, Poncho’s have an elegant sway about them. Allowing you to create the look you want.

These ponchos can elevate any winter look. Pair them above your fitted high neck knits or even above your knitted dress! High boots for glamour and ankle boots for edge.

STYLE NOTE: Add brooches on the necklines for a touch of old Hollywood glamour.

TOP 10 TREND HIGHLIGHTS YOU NEED THIS AW'21

coach (6).png

The 2021 runways are flooding our hearts with romance, memories and detailed stories.

The contrast of traditional symbols of desire and beauty from the 1950s with the high-spirited colours from the ’70s and ‘80s breeds an eclectic mix of tones and silhouettes that inspires nostalgia, comfort and hope.

Ski suits, tweed coats and plenty of voluminous puffers were taking over the runways of Paris, along with hand-spun skirts, pleats, large wraps and snoods.

Dreamy bejeweled knits and Broderie Anglaise lace caught the eyes of many who are aching for a night away.

We are caught in a time where the old souls meet the new. A desire for new beginnings, but also a soul that yearns for comfort and familiarity.

Here are COCO LOUISE’S top highlights for the season.

  1. BIG KNIT BEAUTY

Push away your tracksuits and take a dive into dramatic knits for the season. The beauty in this trend is the enjoyment of layering different textures, colours and styles to bring you ultimate comfort and warmth.

Year after year we’ve noticed a trend in oversized sweaters, and ‘oversized’ is definitely bigger and better in 2021. Notably this season, chunky scarves from Tory Burch and Gauchere’s cosy long sweaters offer the perfect pieces for throwing onto any base outfit.

Ports 1961 made a statement with their exaggerated details, especially seen in their thick cardigans which featured amplified collars and leather braided against wool. Chloé also kicked it up a notch with their long and heavy knitted dresses.

There’s nothing to dislike about big knits, so have your pick and layer them with love. Never forget to also indulge in a big warm hug.

SHOP THE STYLE.

2. COLOUR THERAPY.

If there’s any time for colour, it’s right now. Colours make the best mood boosters, and designers across the globe are bringing joy to our wardrobes with a whirlwind of swirls, large bold graphics, coloured vintage monogram, fluro knitwear and clashing prints.

These looks are taking the streets back to the ’70s, a period characterised by bold colours, voluminous silhouettes and long oversized layers.

SHOP THE STYLE.

3. PLEATED PLISSE.

Did you know that pleats were born in ancient Egypt? It was a symbol of power, and could very well be the next reimagined power symbol for women.

There is something effortlessly elegant in pleated looks— the way the garment creates gentle movements, bringing the outfit to life. The vertical pleats also elongate the silhouette, which adds to the notion of power and strength.

Think of layering your pleats for a dramatic look or dialing it back with Broderie Anglaise lace and English lady tweed coats.

Sun-ray pleats and accordion pleats have been a reoccurring sight in collars, skirts, maxi dresses and inserts, highlighting the themes of vintage romance and cabaret glamour.

SHOP THE STYLE.

4. GET WRAPPED.

Fashion Week ‘21 is telling us to wear ponchos and we aren’t complaining about it.

Ponchos and capes have seen a great resurgence this season and there are many reasons why they could be coming back. It complements any body type, it’s extremely versatile (wrap it, belt it or roll it up) and ultra-comfortable. It also maintains a feminine silhouette with its sloped shoulders and offers a more natural feel to the outfit.

Originally created to signal rank and status, it’s now perhaps adopted as a symbol of comfort and protection in these difficult times.

Pair it with anything, from roomy or flared denim to long skirts and even maxi dresses.

Quick Style Tip.

Tie in your oversized knitted scarf for extra layer.

SHOP THE STYLE.

5. KNITTED SKIRTS

The knitted skirt is your next wardrobe staple, whether it’s a hand-spun, crocheted or woollen skirt, in sheath, pencil or low slung waist maxi styles. There is simply a cut for everyone.

This style may not complement all figures, so remember to play with your proportions to help with shape and length, especially for the petite ladies. Otherwise, opt for a knitted or woollen skirt that’s above the knee, in an A-line cut or one with an asymmetrical side slit.

Be versatile with the skirt— ditch the obvious office styles and opt for an elegant woollen skirt that will add texture to your look and enhance your overall appearance.

Take the hand-spun or crochet skirts to the weekend, pair them with your poncho or a long coat to exaggerate that 70s look.

SHOP THE STYLE.

6. DISCO GLAMOUR.

The ultimate statement to look forward to this season— crystals and sparkles! Reminiscent of better times, this season’s international designers are ramping up our lockdown loungewear with lots of shine.

Tone down your sequinned tunics with denim, sweaters and bomber jackets, or dazzle it up with extra glitz. For the maximalist, embellished crystals are looking sensational on Paco Rabanne’s knitwear, paired with their sequin skirts.

Alberta Ferretti, on the other hand, plays with contrasts by pairing a warm knit above striking sequin pants.

Designers are offering sets that will allow us to mix and match and dress up or down.

SHOP THE STYLE.

7. PADDED PUFFERS & PATCHWORK.

Puffers have never been my thing, but when they come combined in appliqué details, neon colours and printed inserts as seen at Chloé & Etro, I simply cannot resist. There has been a distinctive bohemian flair across different runways (even seen in capes).

Paired with worn-in boots and additional layers, this outfit looks like home in both the countryside and city.

The padded quilted look has appeared in bags for some time now, but this season we’re spotting them in pants, ski-suits (worn on the streets), oversized coats, wrap skirts and even knee-pads at Balmain. More than just functional, they’ve seen a whole style upgrade that people have to get on.

SHOP THE STYLE.

8. PREP IT UP!

Go back to school (or the boardroom) in these playful looks that are taking over international runways (and my heart).

Blazers don’t always have to look stiff and severe. A black blazer that’s oversized can create a more relaxed feel, while pinning your lapels add personality and playfulness to your outfit.

Instead of sticking to the usual white shirts, wear one with laced ruffles for texture. You can also wear your blazers on the weekend with a mini skirt for a more youthful and preppy vibe.

SHOP THE STYLE.

9. BLACK LEATHER.

Leather is a material that’s truly stood the test of time, and for a good reason— anyone at any age could pull off wearing it.

This season updates leather with precise and intricate laser cutting, as well as scalloped edges. They’re both flirty and feminine, but also adds an air of dominance and power.

You can match leather with pleats and frills to soften the edge, or you can match it with more leather and sharp collared shirts to create a grungy or gothic look.

If you’re looking for an earthier feel, khaki and burgundy are amazing alternatives to black leather.

SHOP THE TREND.

10. OLD HOLLYWOOD.

There’s no other era that celebrates the female form than that of the 1930s-50s. This season saw a blend of understated cuts that quietly accentuated the female body and full, unabashed glamour with pearls and luxurious velvets draping onto every curve.

In this period of crop top and leggings, it’s refreshing to see sex appeal presented in former ways, whether it be highlighting your decolletage, bringing attention to your waist or exposing your back. Either way, this trend strikes the perfect balance between demure and sensual.

TOP 5 PICNIC OUTFITS TO WEAR IN 2021

Brown Caramel Collection Fashion & Clothing Retail In-Stream Video Ad (4).png

It’s 2021-- time to pack up last year’s dad sandals, yoga pants, and knitted tops.
I’ve compiled a list of sophisticated yet practical items to elevate your picnic or outdoor dining look this summer.

These looks can take you from the garden to dinner.

FLOAT IN CHIFFON.

1. CHIFFON DRESS.

Maxi dresses are essential for picnics-- while they add length to your silhouette, they also make standing up and sitting down on the grass a breeze. This ethereal chiffon dress is a dreamy addition to your wardrobe.

The high neck front, combined with the low drop back, creates the perfect harmony of modesty and flirtatiousness.

The fluidity of this dress is simply unmatched.

PAIR WITH.

RUFFLE IN VIOLET.

2. RUFFLE DRESS.

If you’re looking for something sophisticated yet comfortable, this playful off-shoulder dress highlights your best assets while letting you feel comfortable all day. The ruffles at the top bring attention to the decolletage, which I believe is the most sensual part of a woman’s body, while the ruching draws attention away from the abdominal area.

You may already be overwhelmed at the thought of wearing ruffles, but the ruching, cuffed sleeves and the length of this dress keep everything neatly contained.

PAIR IT WITH.

THE TIERED FRILL.

3. THE SET.

IMG_0843.JPG

Crop tops have become a common sight at picnics-- understandably so since they accentuate the waist and bust.
This bustier, however, stands out to me as it radiates movement and life. It is cleverly constructed, with a ribbon tie on one shoulder to keep the top even more secure. I like to keep it on my arm to make it look interesting.

The tiered pleats on the skirt elongate the legs, while the belt cinches the waist, so you can always be sure that your silhouette is not overwhelmed by the details. For a less dressy look, pair it with a white T-shirt and gladiator sandals.

PLAYFUL IN THE SUN.

4. THE BUSTIER DRESS.

Feminine and flirty, this wrap dress transforms with a little movement. Especially if you are pearl- or emerald shaped, the asymmetrical, handkerchief hem draws the eye away from the waistband and stomach. While the dress elongates the body for more petite silhouettes, you can also break it up by showing your leg off with the wrap detail.

PAIR IT WITH.

+

FLARE WITH FLAIR.

5. MANDARIN COLLAR DRESS.

By far my favourite of the season-- this mandarin-collared dress is both delicate and edgy. The flare sleeves give the illusion of slimmer arms and softens the structured neckline. You can choose to wear it buttoned or buttoned, depending on how much weight you carry around the chest-- buttoned for smaller chests, unbuttoned for bustier chests. With a pair of heels or flats, this dress transitions seamlessly from picnic to bar.

4 COATS YOU NEED THIS WINTER | Your Style Guide

Screen%20Shot%202020-05-11%20at%209.39.35%20am.JPG

COATS FOR A LIFETIME

After-all, it is a fashion essential we all need!

With all the styles, shapes and colours out there, there are five keynotes you need to take with you when shopping for your next coat:

  1. LOOK FOR ONE THAT SUITS YOUR LIFESTYLE

  2. FIND THE RIGHT CUT FOR YOU!

  3. ONE YOU CAN UTILISE

  4. GOOD QUALITY

  5. TRY AND SEPERATE YOUR ‘ EVERY DAY’ COAT FROM YOUR OUTING COAT.
(No one wants to look shabby on a nice night out!)

I Have put together an informative styling video for you to feel inspired by.
Notice the details I emphasis on, these details are crucial to remember when finding a good coat.

All the coats featured in this video are from a Melbourne based made-to-measure tailor, Godwin Charli.

+

The most important highlight for you to extract from this is knowing that your coat/s should last you more than a couple of seasons. It is winter’s style element that can transform an entire look from characterless to pleasingly polished.

Your coats should be stored and cared for at all times. Keep the day to day coat for your runarounds to work and back. However, invest in a coat that can take you out at night looking finesse.

TIP: Light colours are great, only if you know you can care for it without watching it go stale. Otherwise, no matter how much you invested in it, the coat will be cheapened within days. So no running into muddy streets, keep it chic!

SHOP GODWIN CHARLI.

To shop the coats from the video, please click here: GODWIN CHARLI

Receive a 5% Discount during checkout with the code: COCO5

+

SHOP ALTERNATIVES.

Here are a list of the 4 styles I was recommending in my video. I have selected a range of beautiful colours and cuts, so I am sure you will be finding the right one for you here. Feel free to leave a comment below with any questions.

x COCO LOUISE

TRENCH COATS.

The ever so chic and powerful style that, depending on the fabrication and colour, can take your look from the streets to work even layered above your sheerest dress!

NOTE: If you grab onto the chambray style trench, please note, this is a trendy casual coat. Perfect for the minimalist and not for the corporate office.

+

DOUBLE BREASTED COATS.

Sophisticated indeed.

The double breasted coat can overwhelm your silhouette if you are petite. However, if you aim for this style with a back belt, similar to the one I introduced in the video, SOFIA, then fantastic! This cut is all yours! Make sure it cinches in your waist to suit.

If you are tall, this style is perfect for you even in a boxy shape! For the ladies with hips, the FOREVER NEW fit and flare is your go to!

+

SINGLE BREASTED STRAIGHT COAT.

A long lined silhouette that elongates the look! This cut is sensation on! Also, a charming every day coat!

Easy to edge up with accessories such as :

  • leather gloves

  • a fedora hat

  • mismatched earrings

Or, elevate it with royal tones to take yourself out at night!
This is a classic coat for all occasions and will last for years without looking passé, if you know how to take care of it!

+

BELTED ROBE COAT.

The name itself makes me feel snug and ready for frosty days!

Such an easy coat to layer above most looks, you can even hide your tracksuit beneath and no one will take note! It is an easy way to look stylish when you’re feeling ordinary and lazy. ( Hopefully, this is not something you plan to do on a regular basis!)

Have fun with this coat and style it in different ways. As seen in the above video.

STYLE TIP: Embellish the lapel or belt with brooches, add colourful scarves and textures.

We get excited about what is trending and shop without thinking,

Does this style suit me, will I wear this more than once?

While browsing below, think about what you have in your wardrobe, what styles can be matched with the knit you choose and how will you utilise the staple piece. Also, think about your body shape. Which is more suited for you and your style.

Here are the styles you need now:

+

SHOP SLIM FIT

+

Long-lined and slim fit, this style is perfect for under layering and also helps accentuate your curves.

SHOP SWEATER

+

⇢ Sweater turtleneck, for comfort and style in one, this is more laid back and easy to throw on above your jeans, track pants or even half-tucked into a midi skirt.

SHOP OVERSIZED STITCHED

+

Oversized dropped shouldered with contrast stitching! Currently trending, Icelandic sweaters! Icelandic sweaters are originated from Iceland before the 50’s. THE LAST SHOW | KARL LAGERFELD FOR CHANEL FALL WINTER 2019

"Clothes are nothing unless they are worn."

Karl Lagerfeld

An opening of a farewell, the crowd & models were still, taking a moment of silence while respecting and remebering the legendary man himself, through his recorded voice, Karl Lagerfeld.

This actually brought tears to my eyes as you can feel purity, elegance and passion in the air and through his last collection. Imagine what it would have been like to actually be seated at the dome of the Grand Palais.

In his last collection, he brought back what he always had presented, elegance and in retrospect to Gabrielle Chanel, comfortable tweed suits. Opening the show like the traditional Chanel with tweed skirt suits. He had Cara Delevingne marching through with a tweed set of wide-leg pleated trousers and a strong grace of a herringbone coat layered above.

This collection has an abundance of sophistication. A runway full of long beautiful tweed coats, ruffled organza blouses tucked in high waisted wide leg pants. Nordic knits and knee-length skirts that were nipped in at the waist. An array of high necklines and wrapped neck scarfs beneath silky hair slides. Yes, there was leather and long trailed capes gathering snow from beneath... this was a winter wonderland of a glistering end to a talented legacy and beginning of a new chapter... Chanel will go on.

RESORT WEAR 103 . FIND THE PERFECT HAT FOR YOU.

SWIM WITH A BRIM .

Who doesn't love a tanned face, shoulders and chest? Yup, I do!! Thankfully my skin is a little more tolerant to the sun than fair skin. However, it is still pretty dangerous for olive skin to be sitting long hours in the sun without protection too. I love wearing a hat in or by the pool.

How to select the right style hat for you:

Baseball Caps ⇢ Casual Chic
Tucker Caps ⇢ Super Cool
Visors ⇢ Very Sleek
Tubans ⇢ Just because they are stunning & stylish. (they won't protect you from the sun, but the heck with that, they are fabulous!)
Brim Hats ⇢ Extremely Suave & mysterious (Speaking of Boater Hats, if you have not seen my latest Style Video on how to trend it, you can watch it here and can thank me later...

How To Style The Boater Hat | Spring Staple

I have added a mini selection below of styles that I personally adore and you should too.

Which one suits your personality? Shop it and let me know by commenting below.

VISORS:

If you don't like hat hair, then let us start with the ever so stylish Visors! These are brilliant and easy to pack in a bag, especially the roll up straw ones. The wider the brim, the more protection.

If you were to purchase a style like Dior's visor, you can be sure you will be wearing this with a linen shirt and skinny jeans or even with a puff sleeved dress and bright orange lips. Mmmm J'adore! ♡

CAPS:

Caps are not just for blokes you know. If you are feeling a little more "bad ass" then grab yourself a New Era Tucker cap. What I like about the first one is it acts like a tucker but has the shades of a lady. ( If you get what I am saying!)

If you haven't noticed, the soft leather Versace hat is on sale! Yes ladies and it is so worth it! I mean the colour screams chic and you will have this forever!

As you can see below, I recently trended the boater hat, actually I did nearly everyday of this Summer 18/19! The beauty of any brimmed hat, whether it is wide, narrow or floppy is that they can be any style you want them to be. You can wear it with an edge, or tilt it delicately off your forehead. Depending on the shape of your face and of course the style you are going for. If you are going for a more feminine look, a floppy hat is more dainty as it has softer edges.

Lack Of Colour Wide Brim Boater Hat: $110.12

BRIM HATS:

THE BIGGER BRIM:

FLOPPY HATS:

ALMIGHTY TURBAN

I love saving best till last, just like my food! 😜

As many of you already know, I am a lover for turbans, It connects me to my Eastern roots and brings me nothing but joy seeing many women out there trending it as much as they have started to trend silk scarves in their hair... Actually, my very first YouTube video is a Turban Tying video, yes I need to re-film it as it is quite old. Wow, I actually have come a long way since...

Anyhow, here it is and below that are some luscious styles of already made turbans that you can slip on and trend from day to night.

P.s The Missoni Mare styles are a great bargain! DO IT and make me proud!

RESORT 102 • How To Black With A Clash.

Colour To The Mix.

Yes we all love black!! It is flattering and super easy to style and does not need any thought really. But how about adding a pop of brightness to it and perhaps some print?

"Don't fear a mix of print or colour, embrace it."

Coco Louise
First is first, all back clothing.

Are you heading to a place where you can enjoy a cocktail then a dip in the pool or vice versa? Then find a minimal black one piece. Pair this beauty with either black shorts, a black mini skirt or even a black maxi skirt. Culottes are cute too!

Because black is minimal:

You can add whatever colour you wish. I chose a striking coral.

You can choose lilac, cherry red, orange, pink, sky blue ... anything your heart and mood desires.

I love coral or orange with animal print, which is why I chose OPI, Hot & Spicy nail polish.

OPI: Hot & Spicy ; Earrings: Azade ; Perfume: Roberto Cavalli

Alternatively, here are a selection of colours I would go for:

What about adding a print to the look?

When choosing to mix prints:

Focus on two different prints that have something in common. Perhaps a colour or a shape. Please please please do not choose two different animal prints. Example a Zebra bag and Leopard shoe!

Here are some mix & match options for you to pair with your above outfits:

Resort Wear 101

CLASSY, ALWAYS CLASSY!

What is the first thought or sense that comes to you when you think of a Resort?

When I was a little girl travelling with my family around parts of Australia, we used to stay in these beautiful resorts and I used to get so excited dressing up to head out for dinner after a day of swimming at the pool.

Whenever I think of a resort now, my first scent is chlorine, funny but I love that smell now. ( Not if its in my tap water though!) The second thing I think of is, of course, beautiful resort wear, keeping it chic, always chic!

For example sandals instead of thongs. I do not care if thongs are "trending" at the moment, that is just a FAD. Ditch the thongs! The third thought is a peaceful dinner by the pool or around nature, appreciating the scenery with a " healthy looking" tan!

While I was in Townsville, I enjoyed heading to the local resort for a few days by the pool, this Resort was a great flash back to my child hood. One of my outfits was as simple as these paper bag shorts with a cotton embroidered bralette I luckily found in a local multi-brand store called STELLAR MODA.

Earrings: Azade ; Bralette: Wildfire ; Shorts: Luvalot ; Kitten Heels: Zara

I paired this look with my new kitten heels from ZARA. Now, I usually do not like to support fast fashion, however, if I do find a piece or two that I truely love, I will buy it. But my passion is to support local and independent brands, hoping to inspire others to appreciate them too.

My leather gold purse is from a talented Australian brand called HILLS & WEST and my earrings, which are from a young designer based in Beirut, Lebanon, AZADE. The accessories are stylish, contemporary and handmade jewellery made of plexiglass. These pieces are unique and when added to a simple outfit, VOILA, you have a stylish and interesting one! I love including independent brands from around the world, incorporating east & west into one! It is like connecting the world through style.

Kitten Heel: Zara ; Earrings: Azade Accessories

Below are few outfits I have worn and trended in Townsville's beautiful resort, The Ville. You can also shop similar looks that I have carefully curated for you... Enjoy.
