The long reign of skinny jeans is over, much to the dismay of many.
But fret not! 2021 is welcoming a host of new shapes, washes and fits for all. Whether it’s the move towards comfort from our tighter denim, or the move away from yoga pants, this new trend of baggier fits share one thing in common: nostalgia.
From clean looks like the straight legged jean, to trendier varieties such as the 90’s baggy jeans, this article will explore the best denim trends of 2021.
Straight Legged Jeans
A must-have for all wardrobes, the straight legged jean is a classic yet contemporary staple for all.
If you love skinny jeans but also want to traverse into the world of looser fits, the straight legged jean is a great place to start— it’s slimming, elongating and can make any casual outfit look polished.
They come in many different washes to suit various occasions, but I find that neutral or white solid shades make the best alternatives to pants.
Experiment with tops that flatter your body shape— for example, if you have an emerald cut body, try on a v-neck top to give yourself more curves.
If you are petite or have shorter legs, I recommend hemming the bottom to show off your ankles, or throwing on your favourite pair of heels to give you extra height and elongation.
90’s Baggy Jeans
If you’ve been accustomed to the comfort and safety of high-waisted jeans, the dreaded comeback of the low rise jean may cause some stir and panic.
The good news— I believe society has come to the consensus that low-rise jeans are not for everyone!
2021 is seeing a little alteration on the waists, keeping it mid-to high-waisted so it’s flattering for most body types, while maintaining its cool and effortless baggy look.
The wide legs make them comfortable to wear, but similarly, if you have a more petite silhouette, you may want to consider wearing heels or cuffing the hems slightly to give you more height.

The 2021 runways are flooding our hearts with romance, memories and detailed stories.
The contrast of traditional symbols of desire and beauty from the 1950s with the high-spirited colours from the ’70s and ‘80s breeds an eclectic mix of tones and silhouettes that inspires nostalgia, comfort and hope.
Ski suits, tweed coats and plenty of voluminous puffers were taking over the runways of Paris, along with hand-spun skirts, pleats, large wraps and snoods.

BIG KNIT BEAUTY
Push away your tracksuits and take a dive into dramatic knits for the season. The beauty in this trend is the enjoyment of layering different textures, colours and styles to bring you ultimate comfort and warmth.
Year after year we’ve noticed a trend in oversized sweaters, and ‘oversized’ is definitely bigger and better in 2021. Notably this season, chunky scarves from Tory Burch and Gauchere’s cosy long sweaters offer the perfect pieces for throwing onto any base outfit.
Ports 1961 made a statement with their exaggerated details, especially seen in their thick cardigans which featured amplified collars and leather braided against wool. Chloé also kicked it up a notch with their long and heavy knitted dresses.
There’s nothing to dislike about big knits, so have your pick and layer them with love. Never forget to also indulge in a big warm hug.

2. COLOUR THERAPY.
If there’s any time for colour, it’s right now. Colours make the best mood boosters, and designers across the globe are bringing joy to our wardrobes with a whirlwind of swirls, large bold graphics, coloured vintage monogram, fluro knitwear and clashing prints.

Ponchos and capes have seen a great resurgence this season and there are many reasons why they could be coming back. It also maintains a feminine silhouette with its sloped shoulders and offers a more natural feel to the outfit.
Originally created to signal rank and status, it’s now perhaps adopted as a symbol of comfort and protection in these difficult times.

7. PADDED PUFFERS & PATCHWORK.
Puffers have never been my thing, but when they come combined in appliqué details, neon colours and printed inserts as seen at Chloé & Etro, I simply cannot resist. There has been a distinctive bohemian flair across different runways (even seen in capes).
Paired with worn-in boots and additional layers, this outfit looks like home in both the countryside and city.
The padded quilted look has appeared in bags for some time now, but this season we’re spotting them in pants, ski-suits (worn on the streets), oversized coats, wrap skirts and even knee-pads at Balmain. More than just functional, they’ve seen a whole style upgrade that people have to get on.

8. PREP IT UP!
Go back to school (or the boardroom) in these playful looks that are taking over international runways (and my heart).
Blazers don’t always have to look stiff and severe. A black blazer that’s oversized can create a more relaxed feel, while pinning your lapels add personality and playfulness to your outfit.
Instead of sticking to the usual white shirts, wear one with laced ruffles for texture. You can also wear your blazers on the weekend with a mini skirt for a more youthful and preppy vibe.

Leather is a material that’s truly stood the test of time, and for a good reason— anyone at any age could pull off wearing it.

There’s no other era that celebrates the female form than that of the 1930s-50s. This season saw a blend of understated cuts that quietly accentuated the female body and full, unabashed glamour with pearls and luxurious velvets draping onto every curve.
In this period of crop top and leggings, it’s refreshing to see sex appeal presented in former ways, whether it be highlighting your decolletage, bringing attention to your waist or exposing your back. Either way, this trend strikes the perfect balance between demure and sensual.

5 TRENDY SPORTY-CHIC OUTFIT IDEAS 2021
However you want to call it, ‘activewear’, ‘Athleisure’, ‘Sports luxe’ or ‘Luxury Athleisure’, the melding of luxury fashion and sportswear can be divisive. Perhaps the rising interest in wellness aspirations has lent itself to people wanting to achieve that casual, ‘I-just-finished-pilates’ look.
My stance is clear: gym wear belongs inside the gym, and leisurewear belongs outside the gym. Though I’m huge on showing off your body, there’s something quite jarring about seeing someone at the shops donning big, bright logos across a tiny sports bra.
Somewhere in this controversial Venn diagram, however, I found items that create the perfect symphony of luxury fashion and activewear.
Tried and tested, the new Soileil collection from Jasmine Alexa features some of the most comfortable and easy-going items that you’ll want to wear everywhere and everyday. The best thing about it all— it’s made thoughtfully and ethically and is designed in Melbourne.
DISCOVERY PANTS, RUST.
The 90’s flared and wide-legged yoga pants are making a comeback— they’re convenient (no struggling to pull off your pants after a sweaty workout), comfortable, and they look less like workout clothes. The running line and overall clean design on these pants retain that sense of nostalgia, while maintaining contemporary with the rust hue and high-waisted band.
Paired with a cropped sports top or sweater, you’ll want to travel from yoga to the shops, to lounging around at home in them. These wide-legged pants are also flattering with every body type. It gives less-shapely bodies (like the emerald-cut) the illusion of wider hips, and rounder body types (like the pearl shape) more balance.
2. MAKE IT YOURS TOP, OLIVE.
Sports tops can be a tricky affair when it comes to looking casual yet put-together. We’ve seen enough gaping arm holes and cheesy slogans on athletic tanks. Despite having minimal elements on this top, it still manages to stand out in an understated way. The straps on the sleeves add flair and shape to the top’s relaxed fit, creating the ultimate sport-luxe edge.
The best thing about this top, however, is its luxurious silk-feel fabric. Made from cupro, a vegan alternative to silk, and lyocell, a plant-based fibre, this fabric drapes beautifully and naturally on the contours of your body. While we are tucked away during a year that has filled the air with fear, frustration and emotions. Designers in Europe have whipped up collections that have brought us back down to earth or exhilarated our hearts with hope and inspiration of passion, dreams and cultural appreciation.

The perfect layer. Seeing leather and embroidered gilet’s above relaxed, loose fit shirts. Think crop with shape or oversized below the hips. Paired over dresses, cropped over midi skirts or loosely hung above the carefree bermuda shorts.

A storm of prints walked the runway at some shows like Dolce & Gabbana, Christian Dior, Giamattista Valli and Xula.Bët.
Vibrant mixed media of florals, fruits and polka dots. Soft, misty and earthy tones. Designers passionately infused garments with a tribal influence of shapes and colours.

Wearing the right bra can make you appear slimmer.
Choosing the right type of bra for your top also plays a major role in the shape of your silhouette.
Focus on the following points to ensure your bra is the right fit.
The centre of your bra should lay flat between your breasts.
The back of your underwire should reach all the way back to the front of your armpit.
If the band of your bra is constantly riding up in the back, this means the band is too big.
YOUR T-SHIRT.
The goal shape when wearing a t-shirt is to lift and round the bust, rather than neglect and soften your shape. This will make your silhouette appear taller and slimmer.
